Ever wondered what statues really stand for?
They stand majestically on strategic points in Cardiff, stare you in the face as you walk past the Glamorgan building, grace the interior of some of the buildings and wow you with their piercing eyes as you walk along the hedge of Sophia Gardens on Cowbridge road.
Yet, most people never think beyond why… why were the statues erected, of what significance are they, who built them, when were they erected? This is a question difficult to answer in this forum.
These great soldiers of architecture each have a significant and independent purpose. From commemoration, beauty to self promotion, these statues all have a story. Next time you see one, take time to appreciate it and find out why it stands where it is.
